Around 80 vision-impaired people who succeeded in tertiary level academy have so far been assigned in a number of governmental and non-governmental institutions at different levels of whom most are teachers. However, productivity of well over 10,000 vision- impaired nationals throughout the country needs to be enhanced through different rehabilitation programs that include providing them with access to education and giving training on varied areas of specializations. In keeping with this reality, Eritrea National Association for the Blind (ERNAB) along with its partners recently held a three-day workshop aimed at assessing the over all situation of blindness and the achievements registered so far.

Having presided over the fourth graduation ceremony held last Saturday at the Vocational Training Center in Sawa, President Isaias Afwerki conducted inspection tour of agricultural programs in six sub-zones of Gash-Barka and Anseba regions from August 22 to 23. The President visited the sub-zones of Golij, Teseney and Haykota in Gash-Barka region, as well as the sub-zones of Hagaz, Elaberéd, and Adi-Tekelezan in Anseba region, during which he observed the condition of crops, agricultural infrastructure facilities, micro-dams and the amount of water they have accumulated, as well as other development activities. He also exchanged views with administrators and experts.President Isaias Afwerki set out for a tour of inspection westward from Teseney town early Sunday to observe agricultural activities in the Gash-Barka Region. He arrived at Golij before daybreak after a 60 km long mileage across the hard-packed dirt road. Whilst looking at the growing crops on both sides of the dirt road, the President made his way to Omahajer Administrative area so as to inspect agricultural undertakings at the vast plains around Kachero. After examining the cultivated large farmland, he then proceeded towards Gerset.
Technical and vocation training is a part of the education system that have been given much attention in recent years. The primary objective of promoting this aspect of education is to provide training opportunities for students as well as cultivate skilled human resources to complement the national development programs. As a result there are now 6 technical and vocational schools around the country while the largest one of them in Sawa encompasses 5 different vocational training centers. Graduating 3,700 professionals every year, these schools provide training in a whole rage of trades that include accounting, banking and finance, auto mechanics, building construction, drafting, entrepreneurship, animal husbandry, plant science, forestry and wildlife and many others.
