Coordinated endeavors imperative for effective preservation of forestry and wildlife

The head of national forestry and wildlife preservation office in the Agriculture Ministry, Mr. Gebregergish Sium, noted the need for making coordinated endeavors on the part of the entire society to effectively preserve natural resources and potentials.

Asmara, 19 April 2010 – The head of national forestry and wildlife preservation office in the Agriculture Ministry, Mr. Gebregergish Sium, noted the need for making coordinated endeavors on the part of the entire society to effectively preserve natural resources and potentials.

Noting that active popular participation is imperative for the preservation of forest and wildlife resources, he called on the general public to bring to justice those individuals engaged in  illegal cutting down of trees. Mr. Gebregergish further called on administrative bodies and courts to take the necessary punitive measures against such irresponsible individuals.

He explained that in accordance with the proclamation adopted by the Ministry, vegetable farming or other agricultural land should take place 700 meters away from major rivers and 150 meters from hills. Concerted action is being taken in collaboration with regional administrations to translate the proclamation into action, and that encouraging outcome is being registered in promoting forest and wildlife resources, Mr. Gebregergish added.

He further commended the dedication being demonstrated by members entrusted with the task of preserving forest and wildlife resources.
