Eritrean nationals in US stage protest denouncing unjust US sanctions resolution

Eritrean nationals residing in the United States sent messages denouncing the US engineered unjust and vicious sanctions Resolution 1907 via phone, fax, email, letter and postcards to the representatives of the UN Security Council, President Barack Obama, representatives of the two houses of the US Congress and the Secretary of State, as well as the US Ambassador to the UN and the permanent representatives of the Security Council.
Asmara, 20 April 2010 – Eritrean nationals residing in the United States sent messages denouncing the US engineered unjust and vicious sanctions Resolution 1907 via phone, fax, email, letter and postcards to the representatives of the UN Security Council, President Barack Obama, representatives of the two houses of the US Congress and the Secretary of State, as well as the US Ambassador to the UN and the permanent representatives of the Security Council.

The US State Department and the Office of the US Mission in New York in particular were not able to concentrate in their usual tasks as a result of the intensive flow of messages that continued for 10 hours in the form of fax, email and telephone. And although the aforementioned offices contacted the organizing committee requesting them to inform the public to stop such  flow of message as they were ‘hindered’ from carrying out their activities, the Eritrean nationals, nonetheless, continued the messages.

The messages of protest numbering tens of thousands kept busy the staff members of such US offices in replying phone calls, receiving faxes and checking the flow of emails, while some offices were compelled to disconnect their telephones, faxes and postal devices as a result of the intensive bombardment of messages.

The Eritrean citizens have been conducting public meetings, peaceful demonstrations and donations expressing their unwavering support to their compatriots and the leadership. At present too, they are enhancing their resolute rebuff through declaring “Action Day.”

Thousands of Eritrean nationals took part in the intensive flow of messages of protest that was organized by members of the YPFDJ in the US, according to reports.

Reports further indicated that in the Action Day carried out in 30 American cities, a total of 12,700 phone calls, 45,000 emails, 32,000 faxes and over 25,500 postcards and letters were sent.
