Asmara, 13 May 2010-Extensive preparations are underway to celebrate the 19th Independence Anniversary, according to the Chairman of the Holidays Coordinating Committee, Mr. Gideon Fessehaye.
Mr. Gideon told ERINA that the ongoing efforts of the Eritrean people inside and outside the country to realize national development goals and mount national resolute rebuff adds further importance to the 19th Independence Anniversary festivities which will be celebrated under the theme, “Through work we shall mount resolute rebuff and advance”.
According to the outlined plans, the streets of the capital Asmara will be decorated with colorful lights and different cultural, artistic and sports shows will be staged starting from 15 May.
Mr. Gideon further added that as part of the efforts to encourage more popular participation in the celebrations, the customary communal celebrations will be held at a much more extensive scale.
Moreover, reports indicate that all the regions in the country are making similar preparations to celebrate the event colorfully and that a painting competition will be held among students from elementary and junior schools around the country under the theme “Independence celebrations through the eyes of children”.
