Asmara, 22 May 2010 – In an interview he conducted with ERI-TV in connection with the 20th anniversary of the unity of Yemen and the 19th anniversary of Eritrean Independence Day, the Yemeni Ambassador to Eritrea, Mr. Abdelkadir Mohammed Hadi, lauded Eritrea’s firm and clear stance as regards the issue of Yemeni unity.
The Ambassador stated that at a time when the Republic of Yemen encountered the danger of disintegration in 1994, Eritrea not only stood for the unity of Yemen but also opened its airport for Yemeni planes. And as such, the Yemeni people would never forget such a stance, he added. Ambassador Abdelkadir further noted that such a stance emanates from existing historical, cultural and social ties between the two countries.
The Ambassador went on to say that efforts are being made to reactivate the protocol agreements concluded earlier between Eritrea and Yemen in the domains of trade, media, tourism, marine resource and others. He also asserted the readiness of both sides to enhance the strategic and people-based relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Abdelkadir expressed congratulations to the people of both countries on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the unity of Yemen and the 19th anniversary of Eritrea’s Independence Day. He also wished peace and prosperity to the Eritrean people.
