Major Achievements Registered As Regards Revising Curriculum, Says Department Head

Major achievements have been registered over the past 19 years as regards the task of revising curriculum, according to Mr. Abraham Russom, director of planning and curriculum development branch in the Education Ministry. Asmara, 25 May 2010 – Major achievements have been registered over the past 19 years as regards the task of revising curriculum, according to Mr. Abraham Russom, director of planning and curriculum development branch in the Education Ministry.

He pointed out that the curriculum ranging from kindergarten up to junior level has been revised and that it has already been put into effect, whereas the revised curriculum for the secondary level is being prepared for publishing. In this respect, Mr. Abraham highlighted the substantial investment the Government is making towards upgrading the teaching-learning process, as well as the quality of education.

He further indicated that study is being undertaken to provide education in the mother tongue up to junior level which is currently confined to elementary level. To this end, Mr. Abraham called on partners and concerned parties to enhance collaboration.

Noting that the nation’s curriculum is revised every 10 years, he stated that concerted action is being taken to provide every student with the necessary textbooks for each subject. English language education would also begin from the Grade 1.
