Presidents Isaias And Al-Beshir Hold Talks On Bilateral Relations And Regional As Well As International Issues Of Mutual Interest

Presidents Isaias Afwerki and Omar Hassen Al-Beshir of Sudan held talks in Khartoum last night on enhancing bilateral relations and regional as well as international issues of mutual interest.

Asmara, 27 May 2010 – Presidents Isaias Afwerki and Omar Hassen Al-Beshir of Sudan held talks in Khartoum last night on enhancing bilateral relations and regional as well as international issues of mutual interest.

In the meeting held at the Presidential Palace, President Isaias congratulated President Omar Hassen Al-Beshir for his re-election as the Sudanese leader, and reiterated Eritrea’s resolve to exert utmost effort for promoting Eritrean-Sudanese ties to the highest level.

Stating that Eritrea’s stance regarding Sudanese unity is clear and ever lasting, the President affirmed that its striving in support of the unity of Sudan would continue.

Commending Eritrea’s stance as regards the Sudanese issue, President Al-Beshir on his part expressed appreciation for Eritrea’s unremitting endeavors, especially that of  President Isaias to promote peace and stability in Sudan.

Concerning the discussion which the two leaders conducted on regional issues, both leaders reached understanding that Eritrea and Sudan work in coordination towards bringing about a lasting solution to the Somalia issue.

Furthermore, President Isaias conducted discussions with Dr. Nafi’e Ali Nafi’e, Advisor to the Sudan President. In the meeting, President Isaias advised the National Congress Party and the SPLM to work together and in coordination for the unity of Sudan.

Expressing appreciation to the President for sharing useful ideas as regards the fundamental issue of unity and referendum, Dr. Nafi’e indicated that such genuine on the part of Eritrea and President Isaias would encourage us to work for unity.
