The Administrator of Southern Red Sea region, Mr. Osman Mohammed Omar, said that the expansion of various social services in different parts of the region over the past 19 years of independence are bringing about commendable improvements in the people’s standard of living.
Assab, 28 May 2010 – The Administrator of Southern Red Sea region, Mr. Osman Mohammed Omar, said that the expansion of various social services in different parts of the region over the past 19 years of independence are bringing about commendable improvements in the people’s standard of living.
He explained that such services were previously limited to Assab town but have now been expanded in different corners of the region thanks to the Government’s substantial investment. As a result, the local inhabitants have become beneficiaries of various services, the Administrator added.
Mr. Osman further pointed out that the number of health and educational institutions has increased by 200% and 400% respectively, while electricity supply that was previously confined to Assab town has been expanded to 5 semi-urban centers of the region. Besides, 61% of the inhabitants have now access to potable water supply as a result of the vigorous endeavors exerted by the Government, he elaborated.
The Administrator went on to say that a jetty landing and ice production facilities have been constructed in Berasole, Edi and Tio, which in turn is making due contribution in the activities of fishermen.
