President Isaias Afwerki returned home today from Sudan after participating in the inauguration ceremony of President Omar Hassen Ahmed Al-Beshir at the invitation of the Sudanese government.
Asmara, 28 May 2010 – President Isaias Afwerki returned home today from Sudan after participating in the inauguration ceremony of President Omar Hassen Ahmed Al-Beshir at the invitation of the Sudanese government.
During his stay, President Isaias held talks with President Omar Hassen Al-Beshir, the First Vice President of the Sudanese Government of National Unity and the President of the South Sudan government, Mr. Salva Kiir Meyardit, the Deputy Chairman and Head of Organizational Affairs of the National Congress Party, Dr. Nafi`e Ali Nafi`e, as well as other senior Sudanese officials. The talks focused on enhancing bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern to the two countries.
During the meetings, extensive discussion was conducted regarding the South Sudan Referendum, and the endeavors that need to be exerted for registering outcome that keeps intact the Sudanese unity.
The talks also highlighted the need for the National Congress Party and the SPLM to work in a coordinated manner so that Sudanese unity may be maintained and the rights and interests of all Sudanese nationals ensured, especially that of the people in South Sudan.
It is to be recalled that President Omar Hassen Al-Beshir was elected for the second time as Sudanese leader last month.
