The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region disclosed that concerted action is being taken to enhance bee farming in Logo-Anseba sub-zone as the area is suitable for such activity.
Logo-Anseba, 1 June 2010 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region disclosed that concerted action is being taken to enhance bee farming in Logo-Anseba sub-zone as the area is suitable for such activity.
The head of the branch office, Ms. Elsa Rustom, indicated that about 150 modern beehives have so far been distributed to the farming community in the area. Noting that the awareness of the farmers regarding the significance of bee farming is growing from time to time, she pointed out that queen bee breeding station would be set up around Debri Adi-Hans.
Mr. Zekarias Bereketab, expert in animal breeding, stated that the area is suitable for bee breeding as it is endowed with rich forestry resource, and that a similar station would be introduced in the remaining sub-zones.
About 23,000 kilos of honey is produced annually in Logo-Anseba sub-zone, according to reports.
