Prizes Awarded to Sub-zones that Demonstrated Excellence in Independence Day Celebrations in Southern Region

The Southern regional Administration awarded prizes to 3 sub-zones that demonstrated excellence in staging carnival shows in the celebrations held in Dekemhare town at the regional level on the occasion of the 19th Independence Day anniversary.

Mendefera, 4 June 2010 – The Southern regional Administration awarded prizes to 3 sub-zones that demonstrated excellence in staging carnival shows in the celebrations held in Dekemhare town at the regional level on the occasion of the 19th Independence Day anniversary.

At an assessment meeting held in Kudohimbasha Hall in Mendefera town, the chairman of the region’s holidays coordinating committee, Mr. Gebresilasie Negash, stated that all sub-zones made utmost preparations in the celebrations, which in turn enabled the event to be evermore colorful.

Accordingly, in the carnival shows, Mai-Mine sub-zone stood first and was awarded 15,000 Nakfa and a big cup,  Adi-Keih sub-zone stood 2nd and received 10,000 Nakfa and a middle-size cup, followed by Dubarwa sub-zone which was awarded 5,000 Nakfa and small-sized cup. Institutions and other sub-zones that displayed their products in the carnival also received certificates.

The director general of administration and finance department in the regional Administration, Mr. Tesfamariam Haile, who handed the prizes commended the contribution of students and youths in making the celebrations colorful.

It is to be noted that carnival shows were conducted in Dekemhare town at the regional level in 2008 and in Dubarwa and Adi-Quala in the following year. This year’s carnival shows marking Independence Day anniversary celebrations were also conducted in Dekemhare town in which 12 sub-zones took part.
