Expansion of educational and health institutions in Mendefera sub-zone showing significant growth

The expansion of educational and health institutions in Mendefera sub-zone is showing significant growth as a result of the Government’s investment made over the past years, according to Ms, Mihret Asfaha, head of social service in the sub zone.
Mendefera, 6 June 2010 – The expansion of educational and health institutions in Mendefera sub-zone is showing significant growth as a result of the Government’s investment made over the past years, according to Ms, Mihret Asfaha, head of social service in the sub zone.

Pointing out that the number of student dropout has been declining as a result of the construction of more schools, she stated that the number of female attendance in schools is gaining momentum.  She also indicated that two elementary schools have been upgraded to junior level and one junior school has been elevated to the secondary level.

As regards health institutions, Ms. Mihret said that the efforts to ensure public health in general and mother and child safety in particular are showing noticeable improvement. She further noted that various health services are being provided to the local inhabitants, including vaccination program, eye treatment, fistula and other services.

Ms. Mihret went on to say that children under the age of 5 in each village are obtaining free health care service in line with the community-based health care service.

There exist a number of schools ranging from kindergarten to secondary level in Mendefera sub-zone, according to reports.
