Gerset, 11 June 2010 – The necessary infrastructure facilities are being put in place so as to put extensive agricultural land below the Gerset Dam under irrigation farming, stated Mr. Kibreab Abraham, head of the central government garage in Gash-Barka region.
He pointed out that the primary phase of the putting in place of infrastructure facility has so far been accomplished.
Noting that a pond with a capacity of holding 20,000 cubic meters of water has been constructed along with the installation of water pipelines, Mr. Kibreab indicated that 30 pivot equipments have as well been installed in about 3,500 hectares. There is hope that bumper harvest would be obtained this year, he added.
Mr. Kibreab further explained that youths who received training in the central government garage are actively engaged in the installation of the pivot system. Over 100 Km-long dirt road within the farmland has also been constructed that would facilitate the putting in place of the infrastructure facilities, he stated.
