The inhabitants of She’ib sub-zone said that development drive underway reflects the Government’s commitment to the martyrs’ pledge. She’ib, 13 June 2010 – The inhabitants of She’ib sub-zone said that development drive underway reflects the Government’s commitment to the martyrs’ pledge.
They made this remark in a meeting they held with the Administrator of the Northern Red Sea Region, Ms. Tsigereda Weldegiorgis, regarding the preparations underway to commemorate Martyr’s Day, on June 20, at national level.
They said that the construction of Martyrs’ Cemetery in their sub-zone shoulders them with huge responsibility to live up to the martyrs trust.
Speaking at the meeting, the Administrator on her part said that though the atrocities committed against the people of She’ib on Thursday 12th of May 1988 was similar to the atrocities committed upon innocent people in different parts of the country, the She’ib massacre was unique as elders, mothers and children were crushed under tanks. These atrocities have made the Eritrean people in general and the She’ib people in particular to strengthen their unity and fight the enemy, she added.
Furthermore, Ms. Tsigereda said that the commemoration of June 20th every year highlights the heavy sacrifices paid to achieve independence as well as the pledge to live up to the martyr’s trust in rebuilding the nation. She also commended the active participation of the construction companies and institutions to construct Martyrs’ Cemetery.
