The director general of social welfare in the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare, Mr. Mihreteab Fisehaye, said that supporting and caring for martyrs’ families remains the Government’s top priority.
Asmara, 18 June 2010 – The director general of social welfare in the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare, Mr. Mihreteab Fisehaye, said that supporting and caring for martyrs’ families remains the Government’s top priority.
He stated that June 20 is a great Day that reminds us all to renew our commitment of honoring the trust of martyrs, and added that assisting families of fallen heroes who paid their precious lives for achieving independence and safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty is a national obligation.
Noting that the Government is disbursing over 340 million Nakfa annually towards supporting martyrs’ families, Mr. Mihreteab indicated that over 2 billion Nakfa was paid over the period 2004 to 2010.
Also in line with endeavors to extend additional assistance to very needy families of fallen heroes, over 98 million Nakfa has been raised since 2004 which was subsequently channeled to martyrs’ families, he elaborated. Moreover, the branch head pointed out that over 121 million Nakfa has been obtained out of the activities carried out towards augmenting the Martyrs Trust Fund.
Mr. Mihreteab further highlighted the Ministry’s future plans as regards improving the life style of families of martyrs through buying shares and making investment in those governmental and PFDJ institutions with reliable income, besides reinforcing the support being extended by Eritrean citizens at home and abroad.
