Prayer services and candle vigil conducted in memory of martyrs

Asmara, 19 June 2010  Prayer services were conducted in the afternoon hours today at the St. Michael Church and Al-Khulafa Al-Rashideen Mosque here in the capital in memory of martyrs.

Speaking at the prayer service at the St. Michael Church in which the Administrator of the Central region, Mr. Kahsai Gebrehiwet, other government officials, religious leaders and the faithful took part, His Holiness Abune Dioskoros, 4th Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church, called on the Eritrean people to honor the trust of martyrs and reinforce unity, as well as back up the national development drive.

Likewise, during the prayer service conducted the Al-Khulafa Al-Rashideen Mosque in which government officials and the faithful participated, the Eritrean Mufti, Sheik Al-Amin Osman Al-Amin, delivered a speech highlighting the need to live up to the trust of the fallen  heroes through redoubling efforts towards achieving all-round development and safeguarding the nations sovereignty.

Meanwhile, a candle vigil was conducted in the main streets of Asmara and other parts of the country in the evening hours today in memory of the martyrs. Moreover, popular development campaigns were carried out in the Asmara Patriots Cemetery and Martyrs Park in connection with Martyrs Day.
