Ashenda Water Diversion Scheme Under Renovation

Canals and embankments in Ashenda water diversion scheme  in Forto-Sawa sub-zone that were damaged due to excessive flooding  are now being renovated, according to Eng. Teklesenbet Mihreteab, supervisor of the project.

Forto-Sawa, 29 July 2010 – Canals and embankments in Ashenda water diversion scheme  in Forto-Sawa sub-zone that were damaged due to excessive flooding  are now being renovated, according to Eng. Teklesenbet Mihreteab, supervisor of the project.

He explained that the Government is disbursing substantial budget in putting in place agricultural infrastructure facilities with a view to boosting output. Eng. Teklesenbet further stated that extensive agricultural land which was inconvenient for farming has now been leveled and is ready for cultivation.

He went on to say that the Ashenda water diversion scheme in which continued repair work is being effected  on the part of the Government is making due contribution in boosting the harvest of the farming community in Kulentebai, Wakai and Forto.

The local inhabitants noted the significance of the water diversion scheme in raising productivity and called for vigorous efforts to effectively conserve every drop of rain.

Ashenda water diversion scheme south of Forto has the capacity of irrigating about 850 hectares.
