Asmara, 29 June 2010 – The residents of Tsetserat administrative area in the Central region carried out popular campaign aimed at covering vacant dumping sites with greenery scene.
The coordinator of the campaign, Mr. Goitom Haile, stated that members of the Etaro community in particular took a commendable initiative of constructing terraces and planting tree seedlings on about 5 hectares which used to be a garbage site for a long time.
He went on to say that the campaign is aimed at promoting sound ecology and ensuring public health, and that over 50,000 tree seedlings would be planted through the year-long popular campaign.
The community-based reforestation activities in Etaro camp is being undertaken in coordination with Tsetserat administrative area, the ministries of agriculture and education, according to Col. Woldegebreal Misgun, chairman of the community.
The participants of the campaign attached due importance to such activities in enhancing reforestation, besides nurturing the spirit of collaboration and hard work among one another.
