The Ministry of Agriculture has made ready for planting over 5 million tree seedlings for the success of the 15th round of Summer Work Program and community-based reforestation activities, according to Mr. Fikreyesus Gilai, coordinator of community reforestation in the Ministry.
30 June 2010 – The Ministry of Agriculture has made ready for planting over 5 million tree seedlings for the success of the 15th round of Summer Work Program and community-based reforestation activities, according to Mr. Fikreyesus Gilai, coordinator of community reforestation in the Ministry.
He explained that this year’s reforestation activities would be carried out in reserve areas, school premises and other sites, and that economically beneficial tree seedlings would be planted.
Noting that the Ministry is striving to restore depleted land plots and combat desertification, Mr. Fikreyesus stressed the need for active popular participation to this end. He went on to say that soil and water conservation activities have a vital role to play in reinforcing endeavors to achieve food security.
Mr. Fikreyesus further indicated that the steps taken to ensure accountability at all levels as regards supervising and caring for the planted tree seedlings have registered fruitful outcome.
This year’s Summer Work Program would focus on planting tree seedlings, digging holes, construction and renovation of terraces, embankments and water catchments, as well as construction and repair of roads, besides supporting martyrs’ families.
