Barentu Town Council highlights need for uprooting harmful practices

In a meeting with religious leaders, village elders, members of Assembly, PFDJ and national associations, the Barentu Town Council stressed the need for undertaking stepped-up campaign so as to uproot harmful practices.
Barentu, 3 July 2010 – In a meeting with religious leaders, village elders, members of Assembly, PFDJ and national associations, the Barentu Town Council stressed the need for undertaking stepped-up campaign so as to uproot harmful practices.

The Chairman of the Council, Mr. Gebremichael Habteslasie, highlighted the need for conducting youth-centered lectures and campaign to this end. He further explained that effective tasks  have been accomplished by the Council as regards building Martyrs Cemetery, setting up the Barentu Hospital management, carrying out environmental sanitation and others. There are also plans to construct a water reservoir with a view to easing potable water supply problem in Barentu, Mr. Gebremichael added.

The Administrator of the town, Mr. Franko Kobaba, on his part noted the need for conducting meeting every six months, besides demonstrating transparency so that the public may take active participation in the town’s activities.

The participants of the meeting adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations highlighting the need to address various social problems.
