Conference on significance of constructing terraces conducted in Hamelmalo College

The Dean of Hamelmalo College of Agriculture, Mr. Semere Amlesom, said that it is high time to construct and renovate terraces and embankments in an enhanced manner.
Hamelmalo, 3 July 2010- The Dean of Hamelmalo College of Agriculture, Mr. Semere Amlesom, said that it is high time to construct and renovate terraces and embankments in an enhanced manner.

Speaking at a conference held in the College, he explained that it is aimed at assessing the impact of soil and water conservation activities carried out for experimental purpose, in addition to familiarizing farmers with scientific way of these tasks, and thus boost output. He further highlighted the mishandling of soil and water conservation in destroying natural resources.

The participants of the conference observed the year-long experimental work carried out on about 4 hectares through students and teachers of the College, during which they received briefings. They further voiced impression with the task and called for taking such initiatives in an enhanced manner.

The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, pointed out that the project was quite effective and educational, and noted the significance of close study and working in coordination with farmers so as to bear more gratifying outcome.
