Inhabitants of Mai-Aini called upon to prevent deforestation

The head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Mai-Aini sub-zone, Mr. Alem Mebrahtu, called on the local inhabitants to step up participation in reforestation activities. Mai-Aini, 5 July 2010 – The head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Mai-Aini sub-zone, Mr. Alem Mebrahtu, called on the local inhabitants to step up participation in reforestation activities.

Stating that the cutting down of trees is being witnessed in the sub-zone, he stressed the need for the inhabitants to make increased contribution in preventing such phenomenon. Mr. Alem further explained that the main cause of the deforestation is the cutting down of trees for commercial, fire and building purposes, and that those irresponsible individuals engaged in such acts would be held accountable.

The Administrator of Mai-Aini, Mr. Girmai Keleta, stated that every national is duty-bound to combat deforestation.
