Soil and water conservation activities are being stepped up in Golij sub-zone in a bid to prevent farmlands from damage as a result of excessive floods, besides protecting the newly constructed water reservoirs from getting filled with silt.
Golij, 7 July 2010 – Soil and water conservation activities are being stepped up in Golij sub-zone in a bid to prevent farmlands from damage as a result of excessive floods, besides protecting the newly constructed water reservoirs from getting filled with silt.

The head of soil and water conservation program in the sub-zone, Mr. Tewoldemedhin Teklai, indicated that over 346,000 meter-long terraces and about 615,000 cubic meters of embankments have so far been constructed through popular campaign. In addition, more than 30,000 holes have been dug for planting tree seedlings in Golij semi-urban center and around the rangelands, he added.

The local inhabitants who are taking active participation in the undertaking highlighted the significance of such activities in boosting agricultural production.
