Herdsmen in Golij sub-zone stated that the newly constructed water reservoirs around rangelands are making due contribution in providing potable water supply to the local inhabitants along with their livestock. Golij, 10 July 2010 – Herdsmen in Golij sub-zone stated that the newly constructed water reservoirs around rangelands are making due contribution in providing potable water supply to the local inhabitants along with their livestock.
They explained that previously they used to travel long distance to fetch water for themselves and their cattle, which in turn contributed for unsatisfactory cattle production. At present, however, the necessary animal feed and water is available thanks to the construction of the reservoirs, the herdsmen added.
Reports indicated that there are plans to construct additional water reservoirs in a number of administrative areas in the sub-zone, as they are playing major role in promoting both domestic and wildlife resources.
The Administrator of Aiterf administrative area, Mr. Idris Zekari, indicated that previously the cattle in the area used to migrate to Tekeze due to the absence of water source in the locality. The problem of migrating to remote areas in search of water is now no more as a result of the construction of the reservoirs, he added.
