Asmara, 14 July 2010- In an interview he conducted with ERINA, the head of disease control at the Ministry Of Health, Dr. Tewolde Gebremeskel said that necessary preparations have been made to curb the spread of malaria that might arise due to the rainy season.
Indicating the Ministry has outlined a five-year strategic plan to control the spread of malaria from 2010 to 2014, Dr. Tewolde said that conducting awareness campaigns, making studies as well as avoiding potential breeding areas are some of the preventive mechanisms.
He went on to add that strengthening anti-malaria activities carried out in collaboration with partners and the people, as well as proving malaria medication at the most primary health stations and providing impregnated mosquito nets to pregnant mothers and infants play an important role in controlling the spread of malaria.
Indicating that public awareness regarding the preventive mechanisms has increased even in remote parts of the country owing to the extensive campaigns, Dr. Tewolde said that people living in high risk areas need to make constant check ups.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tewolde stated that enough mosquito nets have been made ready for guests from inside the country and abroad who will be participating in the 4th National Youth Festival in Sawa.
