Volunteer Health Representatives Playing Important Role in Supervising Public Health

Volunteer village health representatives in different parts of the Anseba region are playing an important role in supervising public health and stepping up the people’s awareness regarding communicable diseases, the branch head of the Ministry of Health in the region, Mr. Tesfalem Misgina disclosed.
Keren, 14 July 2010- Volunteer village health representatives in different parts of the Anseba region are playing an important role in supervising public health and stepping up the people’s awareness regarding communicable diseases, the branch head of the Ministry of Health in the region, Mr. Tesfalem Misgina disclosed.

Speaking during a training session for 276 village health representatives, Mr. Tesfalem said that the fact that health representatives live closely among the people enables them to take prompt measures to any health complications that might arise.

In the training provided in Keren, Hagaz, Elabered, Adi-Tekelezan, Geleb and Hamelmalo by experts from the Ministry of Health, extensive briefing was provided as regards the prevention of communicable diseases, particularly HIV/AIDS, malaria, TB, environmental sanitation, maternal and child care as well as harmful traditional practices.

The head of communicable disease control in the region, Mr. Gebreselasie Tekelmariam on his part said that volunteer health representatives are the primary public health care supervisors and called on them to address promptly any health problems in their respective villages.

The health volunteers indicated that the provided training is crucial for their work and that they will strive to improve people’s awareness regarding communicable diseases.
