Keren, 15 July 2010 – Anseba regional Assembly held its 11th regular meeting on July 13 in Keren town.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chairperson of the Assembly, Ms. Asha Mahmoud, underscored the need for members to hold extensive discussions on current and relevant issues due to the fact that the meeting is being held at a time of the national resolute rebuff and strenuous efforts towards achieving food security.
In the meeting, a report regarding the activities of the region over the past six months was presented and the Assembly conducted in-depth discussions.
According to the report, reliable potable water supply has been extended to various areas of Anseba region including four villages; 29 wells have also been dug, in addition to construction of teachers training center in Keren and Asmat, as well as extending support to martyrs’ families and needy citizens.
Commending the ongoing endeavors to expand social services and development programs, the Anseba region Assembly explained that the development program is assuming a promising outcome as a result of active participation of the people.
The members finally adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations including the need for renovation of Keren-Habero and Halhale-Asmat roads, distribution of mobile service to remote areas and stepping up efforts towards ensuring food security.
Speaking at the closing of the meeting, the Administrator of the Anseba region, Mr. Ghergis Girmai, disclosed that electricity supply would be distributed to remaining villages, and emphasized the importance of reinforcing reforestation program activities.
