Concerted Endeavors Underway to Prevent Malaria Epidemic in Shambuko

Strenuous efforts are underway in all areas of Shambuko sub-zone to prevent malaria epidemic with the onset of the rainy season, stated Mr. Haile Abraham, head of the health center in the sub-zone.
Shambuko, 19 July 2010 –Strenuous efforts are underway in all areas of Shambuko sub-zone to prevent malaria epidemic with the onset of the rainy season, stated Mr. Haile Abraham, head of the health center in the sub-zone.

In an interview with ERINA, Mr. Haile said that the undertaken campaign focused on preventive methods comprising of distributing mosquito nets and covering mosquito breeding spots, particularly in densely populated administrative areas of Bishuka, Shambuko, Bimbina, Shehate and Girme.

Pointing out that malaria related deaths have become a history as result of preventive activities as well as the enhanced awareness of the society, Mr. Haile called on the public at large to effectively carryout malaria prevention methods and seek medical help as soon as possible whenever malaria symptoms are observed.

Mr. Samsom Tesfamariam, health expert in the branch office of Ministry of Health in the Gash-Barka region, said that the malaria program focused on prevention is aimed at eradicating malaria from Eritrea completely, and called on the public to maintain the already attained achievements.
