Barentu, 19 July 2010 – In an assessment meeting conducted in Barentu, the branch office of the Ministry of Education in Gash-Barka region disclosed that the efforts to expand and improve quality of education has registered fruitful outcome.
The head of the branch office, Mr. Kelit Girmay, said that the branch is actively working to create equal educational opportunity, promote students’ enrolment and upgrade levels of schools. In this connection, the undertaken efforts have played significant role in alleviating problems facing students who come from remote areas and ensure equal participation, he added.
Stating that various training courses and distance learning opportunities have been provided to enhance the capacity of teachers, Mr. Kelit called on parents to send their children to schools.
The Administrator of Gash-Barka, Mr. Mussa Rab’a on his part expressed the Administration’s readiness to extend the necessary support to effectively implement the government endeavors, and that a school committee would be established to address problems before hand.
The participants on their part adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations including promoting adult education and reinforcing teaching-learning process.
Reports indicated that the number of schools has risen from 74 to 342 and students participation from 16,000 to 100,000 in the post independence period.
