Anseba region: Malaria control endeavors continue to bear fruitful outcome

The spread of malaria infection in Anseba region has dramatically dropped as a result of the extensive campaigns and the growing public awareness on ways of preventing it, stated Mr. Kiros Sereqe, head of malaria control unit in the Health Ministry’s branch in the region.
Keren, 26 July 2010 – The spread of malaria infection in Anseba region has dramatically dropped as a result of the extensive campaigns and the growing public awareness on ways of preventing it, stated Mr. Kiros Sereqe, head of malaria control unit in the Health Ministry’s branch in the region.

He explained that effective tasks  were accomplished over the past two years in accordance with the 5-year strategic plan mapped out. Mr. Kiros further stated that concerted action is being taken not only to control the infection but also totally eradicate it.

Stating that no life has been lost as a result of malaria disease in Anseba region, he stated that skilled manpower along with the necessary drugs and medical equipments have been made available in all parts of the region which are playing major role in controlling the epidemic.

Moreover, over 3,000 malaria control groups are undertaking effective public awareness raising campaigns. Noting that medicated-mosquito nets  have been distributed to the public free of charge, Mr. Kiros indicated that the inhabitants are actively engaged in medicating mosquito nets and maintaining environmental sanitation in general and covering up mosquito breeding spots in particular.
