He pointed out that previously the plant used to carry out its activities along the banks of Sawa River. At present, however, it expanded its projects to Sawa, Afhimbol, Halhal-Sememo, Fiesko, Gerset, Mogoraib, Adi-Omar, Daerotai and She’ib, in which various types of vegetables, fruits and crops are being produced and supplied to the market at fair price.

Lt. Colonel Berhe further indicated that achieving food security, stabilizing the local market, introducing modern farming methods and ensuring competitive production are some of the main objectives of the plant. The necessary preparations are also underway to put over 2,000 hectares under irrigation farming, he added.

Moreover, the manager stated that the plant’s future action program would focus on cultivating about 1,000 hectares of tomatoes towards meeting the demand of the Banatom-Alebu and Afhimbol Tomato Paste factories.

Also in line with efforts to boost milk production, the plant has undertaken breeding on over 400 cows and about 3,000 sheep, and that the green animal feed is bearing encouraging outcome, Lt. Colonel Berhe added.
