The Eritrean Northern Red Sea Region And The Sudanese Red Sea Region Agree To Facilitate Implementation Of Previous Agreements
In a meeting they conducted at the Asmara Palace yesterday, the Administrator of the Eritrean Northern Red Sea Region, Ms. Tsigreda Woldegiorgis and the Administrator of Sudanese Red Sea region, Dr. Mohammad Tahir Ela, reached an understanding to facilitate the implementation of previously made agreements.
Asmara, 1 August 2010 – In a meeting they conducted at the Asmara Palace yesterday, the Administrator of the Eritrean Northern Red Sea Region, Ms. Tsigreda Woldegiorgis and the Administrator of Sudanese Red Sea region, Dr. Mohammad Tahir Ela, reached an understanding to facilitate the implementation of previously made agreements.
During the meeting, the two sides held extensive discussions on ways of accelerating the agreements reached in August 2009 as well as February 2010.
Following the meeting, Dr, Mohammad Tahir Ela told ERINA that the implementation of the agreements reached between the two regions on economy, trade, social and public affairs on basis of directives given by Presidents Isaias Afwerki and Omar Al-Beshir has gained additional impetus. In this respect, there would be direct flights from Port Sudan to Asmara twice a week so as to further strengthen relations between the two regions and facilitate transport between the peoples of the two countries.
Dr. Mohammad Tahir Ela further said that work has already commenced to construct the Port Sudan-Karora road for effective transportation of people and commodities thereby facilitating trade and investment activities.
Disclosing that a tour was conducted in the two regions to exchange experiences on culture and sports, Ms. Tsigreda said that two Eritrean construction companies have gone to Sudan on the basis of agreement reached between construction companies of both sides to exchange experience.
In accordance to the agreement reached as regards to tourism and marine resource investment, a number of Sudanese tourists are flocking to Eritrea and investors are meeting with government and private institutions.
