The head of the Education Ministry’s branch in Northern Red Sea region, Mr. Yasin Mohammed, said that the Government’s endeavors to ensure equitable educational opportunities in all parts of the country are bearing tangible outcome. Massawa, 6 August 2010 – The head of the Education Ministry’s branch in Northern Red Sea region, Mr. Yasin Mohammed, said that the Government’s endeavors to ensure equitable educational opportunities in all parts of the country are bearing tangible outcome.
He noted that prior to independence, educational service in the region was limited to some areas along the Asmara-Massawa road. At present, however, expansion of education has shown a growth of over 800% thanks to the substantial investment made in the sector. The number of student has equally increased by 650%, while the number of teachers shows a growth of 360%, he added.
Indicating that the teaching-learning process in the region continues to gain momentum, Mr. Yasin explained that computers have been distributed to every high school in the region, which would in turn reinforce the process.
Also as part of efforts to provide educational opportunity to children who did not begin attending classes at the right age, a number of children who took classes for 3 years in 17 stations have already reached 6th grade. In this connection, he commended the collaboration of teachers and parents for the success of the program.
Mr. Yasin went on to say that the regrouping of scattered villages in one community is imperative for registering still more gratifying achievements in endeavors to develop the education sector.
