Southern Region: Inhabitants Called Upon To Make Necessary Preparation To Prevent Spread of Malaria

The inhabitants of Southern region were urged to make necessary preparations to prevent malaria epidemic that could prevail due to the rainy season, reminded Mr. Abraha Weldeselasie, head of malaria control in the Health Ministry’s branch office in the region.

Mendefera, 8 August 2010 – The inhabitants of Southern region were urged to make necessary preparations to prevent malaria epidemic that could prevail due to the rainy season, reminded Mr. Abraha Weldeselasie, head of malaria control in the Health Ministry’s branch office in the region.

He told ERINA that training focusing on malaria medical examination was offered to over 650 village representatives, drug shop owners and members of the Ministry Health as part of the endeavors underway. Mr. Abraha also added that over 7,000 mosquito nets have been distributed to pregnant mothers while 4,000 were given to the general public.

Pointing out that the sub-zones of Adi-Quala, Areza, MaiMine and Tsorona are high risk malaria areas, Mr. Abraha said that a anti-malaria campaign in which over 47,000 people took part was conducted.
