Aligidir, 10 August 2010 – The Aligidir Agricultural Project irrigated through diverting Gash river waters has launched activities following the undertaking of full renovation tasks, besides putting in place the necessary infrastructure facilities.

The local inhabitants expressed satisfaction with such developments and noted that the construction of a new micro-dam in the area with the capacity of holding about 8 million cubic meters of water has transformed the area into a site in which one could harvest twice a year.

They went on to say that they are deeply satisfied for being in a position of harvesting twice a year thanks to the construction of the micro-dam and the putting in place of agricultural facilities.

The manager of Tessenei-Aligidir agricultural development project, Mr. Yemane Gebretinsae, indicated that the inhabitants of 5 administrative areas, including Tessenei, Aligidir, Talatasher, Sitimo and Enjihai have become beneficiaries of the micro-dam. He further stated that although over 14,000 hectares could be cultivated through the micro-dam, so far about 5,000 hectares have been distributed to the public.

Mr. Yemane further pointed out that the newly constructed micro-dam  has already accumulated ¾ of its capacity, and that concerted action is being taken to install the remaining water distribution system facility.
