The inhabitants of Gebrekefelet administrative area, Dubarwa sub-zone, constructed three additional classrooms and other facilities in a junior school in the area through raising about 800,000 Nakfa and involving their labor in the construction process. Besides, they are constructing a pond with a capacity of holding about 250 barrels along with water distribution station, as well as school premises. Dubarwa, 20 August 2010 – The inhabitants of Gebrekefelet administrative area, Dubarwa sub-zone, constructed three additional classrooms and other facilities in a junior school in the area through raising about 800,000 Nakfa and involving their labor in the construction process. Besides, they are constructing a pond with a capacity of holding about 250 barrels along with water distribution station, as well as school premises.
The local inhabitants noted that the initiatives taken is aimed at tackling shortcoming that used to be encountered in the school’s teaching-learning process. Mr. Beraki Tesfai, native of the village, who donated 300,000 Nakfa for the project said that any community should take its own initiatives in addressing certain problem, as the Government could not manage to tackle all problems in one go.
The director of the school, Mr. Yosef Fisehatsion, explained on his part that the newly constructed facilities would make due contribution in facilitating the teaching-learning process. In this respect, he commended the genuine move taken by the local inhabitants.
Reports indicated that students used to travel for 3 hours to attend classes in the surrounding semi-urban center of Himbirti due to lack of enough classrooms. At present, however, traveling long distance to attend class would be no more thanks to the construction of additional classrooms.
Gebrekefelet administrative area comprising of Adi-Gebrai and Adi-Kefelet villages is located north-west of Dubarwa town.
