Livestock resource in Kerkebet sub-zone, Gash-Barka region, is are in a promising condition thanks to the existing good rainy season, stated Mr. Osman Mohammed Nur, head of Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone.
Kerkebet, 21 August 2010 – Livestock resource in Kerkebet sub-zone, Gash-Barka region, is are in a promising condition thanks to the existing good rainy season, stated Mr. Osman Mohammed Nur, head of Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone.
He explained that there exist enough animal feed in the sub-zone as a result of the continuing good distribution of rainfall. Mr. Osman further pointed out that the Ministry has made available sufficient medicine and vaccines, and as such no serious concern of animal disease has been witnessed.
Cattle owners said on their part that there was no sufficient grass and crops in the last two years, as there was no good pattern of rainfall then. At present, however, livestock and farmlands are in good condition thanks to the existing good rain showers.
About 2,000 hectares in the sub-zone have been cultivated with sorghum and millet that are in promising stage, according to reports.
