Soil and water conservation activities underway in Central region

Development activities focusing on soil and water conservation are being stepped up in the Central region through the active participation of the general public and members of the Defense Force.

Asmara, 21 August 2010 – Development activities focusing on soil and water conservation are being stepped up in the Central region through the active participation of the general public and members of the Defense Force.

The activities are being carried out around Beleza with the participation of residents of 13 administrative areas in Asmara and that of 3 sub-zones, as well as EDF members.

The coordinator of the program, Ms. Selome Gebreslasie, told ERINA that it is aimed at promoting reforestation activities through planting economically beneficial tree seedlings , and thereby boost honey production.

Reports indicated that the activities are being undertaken with close coordination of the Agriculture Ministry and other parties.
