Southern Region: Micro-Credit Scheme Makes Due Contribution In Improving Living Standard Of Beneficiaries
Mendefera, 26 August 2010 – The micro-credit scheme in the Southern region is making due contribution in improving the living standard of the beneficiaries, stated Mr. Gebrehiwet Woldai, head of the program in the region.
Pointing out that most of the beneficiaries are engaged in agriculture, trade and service-rendering ventures, he indicated that loan to the tune of 12 million Nakfa that was extended to the beneficiaries has already been paid back.
Mr. Gebrehiwet further explained that 48 village banks have been opened in the Southern region, and that credits ranging from 7,000 to 15,000 Nakfa have so far been disbursed to the beneficiaries. A micro-credit scheme in the region, which was established in 1993, has 27,000 clients.
