Dekemhare sub-zone: Inhabitants take initiatives to construct water reservoir and library

The inhabitants of Damba and Adi-Kerets in Dekemhare sub-zone have taken initiatives to construct water reservoirs and library through voluntarily raising over 350,000 Nakfa and making labor input.
Dekemhare, 30 August 2010 – The inhabitants of Damba and Adi-Kerets in Dekemhare sub-zone have taken initiatives to construct water reservoirs and library through voluntarily raising over 350,000 Nakfa and making labor input.

Accordingly, they have managed to construct a reservoir with a capacity of holding about 70,000 cubic  meters of water which is aimed at easing drinking water problem for livestock, in addition to building a two-room library in a school in the area. 

The Acting head of Damba, Mr. Teklu Gebremeskel, said that the construction of the library is aimed at creating conducive ground for students to spend their spare time in reading books. He further stressed the significance of the newly constructed water reservoir that has already accumulated sufficient volume of water in tackling shortage of drinking water for cattle during the dry season. 

Meanwhile, the local inhabitants are carrying out development activities focusing on the renovation of a 10 Km-long dirt road which was damaged by heavy rains, besides combating soil erosion.

The participants of the campaign highlighted the importance of such activities in raising productivity.
