Demand For Fred Hollows Laboratory Products Growing In Various Parts Of The World

The demand for intraocular lens produced by the Fred Hollows Laboratory here in the capital is growing in different parts of the world, stated Mr. Mengisteab Tewoldeberhan, the manager.

Asmara, 9 September 2010- The demand for intraocular lens produced by the Fred Hollows Laboratory here in the capital is growing in different parts of the world, stated Mr. Mengisteab Tewoldeberhan, the manager.

Indicating that the Laboratory has so far manufactured 1.7 million intraocular lens that were distributed both inside the country, and in various counties of Africa, Asia, Oceania and Europe, he said that it is currently engaged in producing flexible intraocular lens which is in demand at global level.

Mr. Mengisteab further explained that the Plant’s work procedure is up to international standard. He added that 97% of its products is channeled for export, which in turn is making due contribution for hard currency earnings, besides mitigating blindness.

The manager also indicated that the Laboratory has introduced modern equipments and is offering training aimed at upgrading the capacity of its staff members. He further pointed out that it intends to produce eye drops in the near future.
