Malaria prevention efforts to be stepped up in Adi-Keih sub-zone

Adi-Keih, 15 September 2010 – The inhabitants of Adi-Keih sub-zone are called upon to promote environmental sanitation and cover up mosquito breeding spots so as to prevent possible spread of malaria infection.

Mr. Aman Meles from community health service indicated that Embakuakot, Adi-Kanta, Garbanaba, Safira, Mendefera and Hawatsu are high-malaria risk areas. He went on to say that the spread of the infection has dramatically dropped at present thanks to the growing public awareness regarding ways of preventing it.

Also in line with efforts to control malaria infection, over 15,000 mosquito nets have been medicated and that more than 3,000 mosquito nets have been distributed to pregnant mothers.

Reports indicated that over 110 health representatives are undertaking campaigns in a number of administrative areas, in addition to providing proper treatment.
