Keren, 14 September 2010 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Anseba region highlighted the need for making serious supervision on the mushrooming hundreds of thousands of tree seedlings planted through active popular participation.
The branch office disclosed that 90% of the tree seedlings planted through the Summer Work Program and the general public during this rainy season are in good condition, and that such activities are part of endeavors to promote soil and water conservation, as well as achieve food security.
Reports indicated that a total of 29,000 different types of tree seedlings have been planted during this summer in the sub-zones of Habero, Elabered, Keren, Hamelmalo and Hagaz, in addition to the planting of about 720,000 other various types of seedlings in Adi-Tekelezan, Elabered, Keren which are in promising condition.
The inhabitants of various areas in the region on their part noted the need for taking the necessary punitive measures against those individuals who practice illegal cutting down of trees.
