Ministry Rehabilitates 184 Disadvantaged Families

The branch office of the Ministry of Agriculture in Molqi sub-zone demobilized a total of 184 needy families headed by women by providing them with livestock worth 15 million Nakfa, stated Mr. Woldu Tekle, coordinator of food security project in Gash-Barka region.

Molqi, 19 September 2010 – The branch office of the Ministry of Agriculture in Molqi sub-zone demobilized a total of 184 needy families headed by women by providing them with livestock worth 15 million Nakfa, stated Mr. Woldu Tekle, coordinator of food security project in Gash-Barka region.

He told ERINA that each family received five goats or sheep, and that others were given one ox each. Mr. Woldu also disclosed that tractors were deployed to assist these families in farming activities, in addition to distributing 180 quintals of bean and sorghum seeds.

Moreover, terraces have been constructed over 364 hectares through active participation of the local inhabitants as part of the soil and water conservation programs.

The head of the Agriculture Ministry in the sub-zone, Mr. Atoberhan Yosief, emphasized the need for enhanced efforts in the undertaken tasks.
