Strengthening control mechanism vital to mitigating rising price of consumption items, Say customers

Asmara, 20 September 2010 – Customers stressed the need for controlling rising price unilaterally imposed by service rendering institutions.

They told ERINA that the price hike is being resorted to on various consumption items, and consequently fair price of such goods continues to fade away leading to customers’ dissatisfaction.

The owners and managers of the service-rendering institutions stated that there exists no party that monitors the change or increase of price on different items.

The head of the Ministry of Trade and Industry branch in the Central region, Mr. Yohannes Melake, said in a reply he gave to ERINA that most of such institutions are becoming mere profit-centered and are driven by greed, and as such the phenomenon calls for the strengthening of control mechanism and taking punitive measures.

In this connection, he explained that remedial actions have been taken against more than 12 enterprises in connection with such  incidence, and called on the general public to enhance contribution to this end.
