Keren, 23 September 2010 – Residents of Keren said that the construction of a modern mosque in the town attests to the Eritrean government’s stance on religious freedom. They further stated that the construction of the mosque which is near in completion is a pride to the town residents in general and followers of the Islamic faith in particular.
One of the town residents, Mr. Jumi’e Dar Hiyabu, expressed deep satisfaction with the fact that in sharp contrast to the now prevailing religious freedom and equality in the country, the site where the new mosque is constructed used to be the police headquarters of the colonial Ethiopian regime that inflicted torture and other inhumane acts upon innocent Eritrean citizens.
