Concerted action being taken to expand educational opportunity in Southern Red Sea region

The head of the Education Ministry’s branch in Southern Red Sea region, Mr. Abdalla Mohammed, said that vigorous endeavors are being exerted to expand educational opportunity through strengthening the capacity of boarding and semi-boarding schools in the region.  Assab, 27 September 2010 – The head of the Education Ministry’s branch in Southern Red Sea region, Mr. Abdalla Mohammed, said that vigorous endeavors are being exerted to expand educational opportunity through strengthening the capacity of boarding and semi-boarding schools in the region.  

In a meeting with directors, supervisors and teachers, he indicated that improvement has been registered in the participation of students in education, specially females as a result of the undertaking of campaign and other activities. In this connection, he stressed the need for taking still more concerted action so as to attain the set goal.

Mr. Abdalla further stated that schools that have been offering adult education program for children in the age group of 9-14 have finished the 3 year-long academic activities, and as such should enter a new phase. He explained that plans have been drown up to provide educational opportunity to those children who failed to attend classes at the right age due to pastoral way of life.

Also in line with efforts to expand educational service in the region, schools would be constructed in the sub-zones of Araeta and Southern Denkalia, as well as in the administrative areas of Harsile, Abo and Beilul, Central Denkalia sub-zone, Mr. Abdalla elaborated.

The participants of the meeting adopted various resolutions and recommendations highlighting the need to offer training course to upgrade the competence of teachers and enhance the participation of the society in the teaching-learning process, among others.
