Segeneiti, 27 September 2010 – The introduction of smokeless ovens should continue in an expanded manner as such devices make due contribution in ensuring mother’s health, apart from its significance in minimizing firewood consumption, stated beneficiaries in Segeneiti sub-zone.
They noted that they were compelled to consume immense firewood while using the traditional oven, and that the introduction of smokeless oven at present has saved firewood by well over half. The mothers further outlined the negative impact of traditional oven in their health and the environment at large. In this connection, they stressed the need for introducing such a device in every household.
Ms. Asmeret Gebrezgi, expert in life skill in the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, said on her part that smokeless oven has a vital role to play in ensuring the health of mothers and promoting sound ecology.
So far, about 1,000 smokeless ovens have been made available in Segeneiti sub-zone, whereas about 300 others are being modified in the villages of Digsa, Degra-Lib’a and Adengefom, according to reports.
