A Communal maternity hospital under construction in Edaga-Hamus

The construction of community-based maternity hospital in Edaga-Hamus, Asmara is underway at a cost of over 7 million Nakfa.
Asmara, 3 October 2010 – The construction of community-based maternity hospital in Edaga-Hamus, Asmara is underway at a cost of over 7 million Nakfa.

The head of the Health Ministry’s branch office in the Central region, Dr. Werede Mesfin, pointed out that the construction of the new maternity hospital is expected to alleviate the work intensity in Orota Referral Hospital and thereby render efficient service. He added that the necessary facilities have been provided and that it would be finalized at the end of this year.

Reports disclosed that the hospital would start delivering service in 2011 to the residents of Abashawl, Geza-Birhanu, Via-Jeddah, Akria, Edaga-Hamus, and other areas.

The hospital which is under construction through the collaborative efforts of the Government and development partners comprises of 24 rooms such as delivery room, surgery and waiting room.

Moreover, Dr. Werede disclosed that a similar hospital has been constructed in Bet-Mekha’e in the administrative area of Tsetserat, and called on mothers to avail themselves of the available services. He further indicated that there is a plan to construct another community hospital in Mai-Chihot.

It is to be noted the community maternity hospitals constructed in Serejeka, Merhano, Tseada-christian are currently rendering efficient services.
