Parents called upon to properly follow up their children’s academic performance

In a meeting with parents and students in Haikota semi-urban center, the head of schools in Haikota sub-zone, Mr. Abdalla Mahmoud, urged parents to work diligently in coordination with teachers in directing their school children.

Haikota, 4 October 2010 – In a meeting with parents and students in Haikota semi-urban center, the head of schools in Haikota sub-zone, Mr. Abdalla Mahmoud, urged parents to work diligently in coordination with teachers in directing their school children.

Highlighting the significance of fostering close relations among parents, students and teachers in upgrading student academic performance, he called on them to encourage and properly follow up their children’s academic pursuit.

Mr. Abdalla further explained that the main cause for student dropout remains to be negligence or low parental supervision. In this connection, he pointed  out that increased role of parents, administrative bodies and village elders is imperative for sending children to school at the right time.

He went on to say that the Education Ministry branch in Gash-Barka would implement age-based curriculum process in accordance with the directives issued by the Ministry in 2005.

The Administrator of the sub-zone, Mr. Humed Yosuf, on his part noted the need for parents to send their children to school so that they may cope up with scientific and technological advancement in the world.

The parents voiced commitment to send their children to school, besides properly following up their academic performance.
